Men's soccer defeats UMF, 2-0

WATERVILLE, Maine --- JoseLuis Mendoza (Washington, D.C.) scored about 16 minutes into the second half and Colby College added an insurance goal in taking a 2-0 non-conference victory over University of Maine at Farmington in men's soccer Thursday.

Mendoza scored his first goal of the season on a header off a free kick by senior co-captain Daniel Kiernan (Brookline, Mass.) at 60:56.

Jim Pilgrim (Baltimore, Md.) tallied with 3:18 left in the game off an assist from Logan King (Braintree, Mass.) to give Colby (4-5-2) its final score.

The Mules had a 23-4 advantage in shots and a 10-2 margin in corner kicks.

Josh Kahane (Newton, Mass.) earned his third shutout of the season with one save. UMF goalkeeper Brian Lemont (Brunswick, Maine) was credited with four stops.

Colby plays host to Connecticut College at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
