LEWISTON, Maine --- The rain and the wind took away an opportunity for the Colby College men's soccer team to make the New England Small College Athletic Conference playoffs after the Mules settled for a 2-2 tie with Bates College after the officials stopped the game Saturday after poor weather conditions made the field unplayable.
With 10 minutes left in regulation and overtime looming, the officials called the game off. Colby (6-5-3, 2-5-2 NESCAC) needed to win the contest to make the league playoffs.
Bates (7-5-1, 3-4-2) took a 1-0 halftime lead at 41:33 on a goal by Patrick King.
The Mules came out ready to play in the second half and got unassisted goals from Will Kinder at 46:20 and Jamie Waters at 56:10.
The Bobcats, though, tied the game about two minutes later when Patrick Grater tallied at 58:30.
