WATERVILLE, Maine --- Peter Randall (Medford, Mass.) scored with 6:38 left in the first half and his goal stood up as the Colby College men's soccer team moved to 2-0 overall with a 1-0 victory over Maine Maritime Academy in non-conference play Wednesday.
Colby junior goalkeeper John Gardner (Winter Haven, Fla.) has not given up a goal in the Mules' opening two games and made two saves against the Mariners.
The Mules, who had a 26-4 shot advantage and a 7-0 margin in corner kicks, went ahead for good when Nick Aubin (Simsbury, Conn.) smacked a cross into the box from the left side. Randall, who was about five yards out from the right post, used a one-touch to settle the ball and found the back of the net with his shot. Aubin has both assists for Colby this season.
After pouring on more than 50 shots in a 0-0 tie at Maine Maritime Academy last year, the Mules settled for half that this year. Andrew Meisel (Newtown, Conn.) had nine shots and Aubin had five.
Mariner goalkeeper Randy Bartlett (Lincoln, N.H.) made nine saves.
Colby will try to stay unbeaten when Wesleyan University comes to Waterville for a 1:30 p.m. game Saturday. The Mariners will play at University of Maine at Presque Isle at 1 p.m. Saturday.
