Men's soccer loses for first time this season

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Jacob Mergendoller (Mill Valley, Calif.) tallied 6:40 into the game and Wesleyan University made the goal stand up in a 1-0 victory over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference men's soccer Saturday.

The Mules (2-1 overall, 1-1 NESCAC) had lost by 5-0 scores twice to the Cardinals a year ago, but were in this game the whole way. Wesleyan also moves to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Austin Woolridge had the assist for the Cardinals, who received two saves from goalkeeper Adam Purdy (Montclair, N.J.) in the shutout.

Colby keeper John Gardner (Winter Haven, Fla.) allowed his first goal of the season after earning back-to-back 1-0 shutouts in his first two games.
