WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College men's soccer team had been frustrated offensively in the first three games of the season, but exploded for four second-half goals on the way to a 6-1 non-conference win over Husson University on Tuesday.
The Mules had a 77-33 shot advantage over the opponent heading into the game. However, Colby (1-2-1 overall) had just one goal to show for all the shots.
Peter Randall (Medford, Mass.) had a pair of goals and Cory Hendrickson (Duxbury, Mass.) had his first collegiate goal and an assist for Colby. Matt Vivero (Killingworth, Conn.) and Nick Aubin (Simsbury, Conn.) also had their first collegiate goals for the Mules. Matt Boyes-Watson (Cambridge, Mass.) had the other goal for the winners, while Scott Brown (Trumbull, Conn.) and Nate Seiberling (Sharon, Mass.) had assists.
Randall put the Mules ahead for good just 4:52 into the contest on a blast from just inside the 18-yard line. Boyes-Watson made it 2-0 at 39:52 when Hendrickson fed him with a one-touch after a throw-in.
Husson (3-5 overall), which has a 4-3 overtime victory over Bates College to its credit this year, made it a 2-1 halftime game when Alex Martin (Van Buren, Maine) scored on a one-timer off a cross from John DeStefano.
Hendrickson's long blast off the right post at 64:19 gave the Mules some breathing room at 3-1. Colby scored three goals in the final 8:20 to pull away. Randall tallied off a pass from Seiberling at 81:40, Aubin got his goal at 87:53, and Vivero closed it out with just 28 seconds remaining from Brown.
Doug Sibor (Hingham, Mass.) made four saves in goal for Colby.
