WATERVILLE, Maine --- Bryan Brown and Alex Chin did the job in singles and doubles for the Colby College men’s tennis team only to have Tufts University pull out a number of close matches in a 5-4 victory over the Mules in a key New England Small College Athletic Conference match Friday.
Tufts is 9-5 overall and 3-4 in league play, while Colby falls to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the conference. The top six teams in the NESCAC make the league playoffs and this match was important for the league standings as the regular season comes down to the final few matches of the year.
Brown took a 6-2, 6-1 win over Jon Trott at first singles and joined forces with Chin for a tough 9-8 (7-2) win at first doubles over the Jumbos’ Jake Fountain and Kai Victoria. Chin also cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at second singles over Fountain. Brown and Chin are 5-1 in doubles play in NESCAC matches this season and Brown moves to 4-2 in league matches at first singles.
Tommy Kimball and Phillip Zunshine had the other victory for Colby at third doubles.
