Men's tennis competes at ITA tourney

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. --- Colby College's Brody Saunders advanced to the third round before falling at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England Region Men's Championships on Saturday.

Saunders took a 6-3, 7-5 win over Max Berger of Bates College in the opening round and then captured a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Williams College's Jeremy Weinberger in the second round. Saunders lost 6-4, 6-0 to Middlebury College's Andrew Thompson in the third round.

Bryan Brown and Zack Schuman both won one match apiece before losing in the second round. Brown won 6-3, 6-3 over Southern Maine's Craig Spaan before losing 6-1, 6-1 to Middlebury's Conrad Olson. Schuman got past Babson College's Jeremy Stien by 6-2, 6-3 scores and then fell 7-5, 7-6 (5) in a tough match to Ben Stein of Bates College.

Saunders and Brown lost 8-6 in doubles play to Middlebury's Kevin Bergesen and Andrew Thompson in the opening round. Schuman and Tom Gildersleeve fell 8-3 to Trinity College's Gautam Samarth and David Yahng in the first round.
