WATERVILLE, Maine --- Zack Schuman (Watchung, N.J.) and Tim Fuhriman (Salt Lake City, Utah) each won matches in three sets to help interim head coach Hans Romer win his first match at Colby College with a 6-3 victory over Tufts University in men's tennis Saturday.
Fuhriman dropped the opening set to Matt Gallin, but stormed back for a 6-3 win in the second set and then pulled out a 7-6 (4) victory in the deciding set at fourth singles. Schuman won 7-5, 6-4, 7-5 in a tight match with Sean McCooey at the third spot.
Colby (1-0 spring season) also got a singles win from Bryan Brown (Bangor, Maine) at the second spot.
The Mules swept all three doubles matches as Brody Saunders (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Brown won at the first position by an 8-6 margin. Fuhriman joined forces with Alex Chin (Anaheim, Calif.) in another close match as the two took a 9-8 (4) victory at the second spot. Colby co-captains Tom Gildersleeve (Lexington, Mass.) and Schuman won at third doubles.
