LEWISTON, Maine --- The Colby College men's tennis team lost for the first time this season, but did receive singles wins from Jack Bryant and Matt Mantikas in a 7-2 loss at 23rd-ranked Bates College on Wednesday. Bates, ranked seventh in the Northeast Region, moved to 6-4 overall and 1-0 in New England Small College Athletic Conference play. Meanwhile, the Mules fall to 0-1 in the league and 5-1 overall heading into Sunday's 9 a.m. match with Trinity College. Bryant won at fourth singles with a 6-4, 3-6, (10-8 pro-set) victory over Peter Yanofsky. Mantikas also won in a pro-set after falling 6-1 in the first set only to battle hard for a 7-5 second set victory and then a 10-4 pro-set win. Robbie Yee and Sam Bachelder fell 9-8 (5) in a tight second doubles for Colby, ranked 15th in the region. Bates 7, Colby 2
