WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College women's basketball team is headed to New Jersey for the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The Mules (21-5 overall) earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tourney and will meet Empire 8 Conference champion Stevens Institute of Technology (21-6) at William Paterson University in a first round game on Friday at 5 p.m. William Paterson (24-3) will play Keuka College (24-2) in the other opening round game at 7 p.m. The winners of the two contests will then play in the second round on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Colby is back in the NCAA tourney for the second straight year and for the second time overall. The Mules hosted a first and second round regional a year ago, beating Husson University in the opening round and then losing a tough overtime battle with Babson College in the second round.
Christine Clancy heads to the NCAA tourney in her first year as head coach. She was the assistant coach for Colby last year.
Colby tri-captain Jules Kowalski is from New Jersey. She has helped the Mules to a 45-10 over the past two seasons.
The Mules are one of four New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) to make the tourney. Amherst College, the league champion, and Bowdoin College will both host opening round regionals. William College also earned an at-large bid.
