WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College senior outfielder Richard Newton (Arlington, Mass.), who had the best year of his collegiate career after batting .400, was honored two times Wednesday as a New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Third Team pick and a New England Small College Athletic Conference Second Team All-Conference selection. Newton earned the All-New England and all-conference honors after leading the Mules in batting average (.400), at-bats (120), runs scored (35), total hits (48), on-base percentage (.474), stolen bases (15), and was tied for the top spot in doubles (10). He also had 54 chances in right field and made just one error for a .982 fielding percentage. In the NESCAC statistics, Newton is third in the league in batting average, second in stolen bases, and tied for fourth in total hits. Newton finished his career at Colby with a .346 batting average, 124 hits, 97 runs, 45 RBI, a .464 slugging percentage, a .427 on-base percentage, 34 walks, and 40 stolen bases in 48 attempts. Newton recently earned Colby's Donald P.
