Women's hockey drops tough 2-1 game

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Despite 26 saves from Colby goaltender Brianne Wheeler (Brussels, Ontario), the Mules fell 2-1 to Saint Anselm College in non-conference women's hockey Tuesday night at Alfond Rink.

Kristen Byrne (Duxbury, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal in the third period for Saint Anselm.

Sarah Ellins (Greeley, Colo.) scored the first goal of the game in the opening period for Saint Anselm (7-3) and then assisted on Byrne's third-period score. Rosemarie Giarrusso (Palm Beach, Fla.) had the assist on the Ellins goal.

Colby (4-7) tied the game at 1-1 in the second period when Meredith Reynolds (Marion, Mass.) tallied off assists from Tasha Rivard (Newbury, Mass.) and Hannah O'Brien (Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.).

Amy Zappen (Huntington Beach, Fla.) stopped 26 shots in goal for the winners.
