Garrec second, Fereday seventh for Nordic teams

HUNTINGTON, Vt. --- Lucy Garrec earned her seventh top-three performance in the past two years for the Colby College women's Nordic team and Wyatt Fereday led three men's skiers in the top 20 by placing seventh at the Saint Michael's Ski Carnival on Friday at Sleepy Hollow.

Garrec, who had a spectacular first year at Colby last year with six top-three performances and a the program's first-ever ski carnival win, took second place in the 10-kilometer freestyle race in 31 minutes, 33.9 seconds. She was runner-up to Dartmouth College's Erika Flowers, who had a 31:10.9.

Garrec helped the women's team place fifth out of 12 teams and just one point out of fourth place with 80 points. Melissa Krause took 25th place for the Mules in 33:18.6.

Fereday, an NCAA competitor two years ago, was seventh with a time of 43:10.8 in the 15K men's race. Sam Mathes took 11th place in 43:42.3 and Jake Barton had a solid 20th with a 44:45.8 clocking as the Mules took fourth place with 86 points in the 12-team field.
