Gill leads men, Nordic women have best finish

STOWE, Vt. --- Silas Gill finished in fourth place to help the Colby College men's Nordic team place third overall and just miss second place in the 10-kilometer classical event at the University of Vermont Ski Carnival on Friday at Stowe.

Dartmouth won the men's competition with 86 points. Middlebury was second with 80 points and Colby had 79 points in the 11-team field.

Gill had a time of 29 minutes, 38.9 seconds over the 10 kilometers to finish first among Colby skiers. Matt Briggs was 10th in 30:06.6 and Nick Kline was 11th with a 30:08.1. The Mules also got solid finishes from John Swain (15th), Sam Mathes (18th), and Wyatt Fereday (21st).

Kathleen Maynard placed 18th in the women's 10K rae in 36:17.0 to help the Colby women take seventh place with 39 points. Jennie Brentrup took 27th for the Mules in 37:05.1.
