WOODFORD, Vt. --- Wyatt Fereday finished just less than one second away from becoming the first Colby College men's Nordic skier to win a ski carnival race at the Williams College Ski Carnival on Saturday.

Fereday was runner-up in the men's 10-kilometer freestyle race in 26:11.4. Dartmouth's Eric Packer edged Fereday with a winning time of 26:10.5. Fereday helped the Colby men place second in the event with a score of 107.

"The guys skied really smart races today," Colby Nordic ski coach Tracey Cote said. "Wyatt missed the first win ever by a Nordic man at Colby by one second and Sam Mathes and Jake Barton also skied incredibly strong races. These guys are so focused and work so hard it's great to see it come together for them."

Mathes placed eighth in 26:49.9 and Barton took 13th with a 27:02.3.

The women's team was battling illness and was without their top two skiers this season. Missy Krause placed 31st for the Mules.
