CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine --- Lucy Garrec earned her sixth top-three finish of the season and was the runner-up in the women’s 5-kilometer classic race at the Colby College Ski Carnival/Eastern Championships at Sugarloaf on Friday.

Garrec, who will ski at the NCAA Championships at Sunday River from March 11-14, continued her stellar first season with the Mules. She had a time of 20 minutes, 32.2 seconds over the course to help the Mules finish in fourth place out of 11 schools with 85 points. Garrec, who ranked third in NCAA points heading into the weekend, finished behind Dartmouth College’s Rosie Brennan (19:11.8).

Kathleen Maynard finished in 25th place with a 22:17.7 clocking and Melissa Krause was 27th in 22:25.0.

Wyatt Fereday was 14th for the Colby men, who placed eighth overall with 65 points. Sam Mathes took 26th in 35:23.0.

Racing continues Saturday at Sugarloaf with the women’s 15-kilometer mass start and the men will race 20K.
