RUMFORD, Maine --- Lucy Garrec (Freeport, Maine) took 14th place in her first national meet race at the NCAA Skiing Championships at Black Mountain on Thursday.

Garrec had a time of 14 minutes, 51.9 seconds in the 5-kilometer classical race, while teammate Kathleen Maynard (Jackson, N.H.) was 32nd in 15:29.4. Both skiers will be back in action Saturday in the women’s 15-kilometer freestyle (mass start) race at 10 a.m.

Garrec and Maynard helped the Colby women place 11th out of 19 teams despite being one skier short of a full team of three. Garrec was fourth among Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) skiers in the mass start and was fifth during the carnival season in the classical. Maynard was 14th in the freestyle and 15th in the classical during the EISA season.
