STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. --- Wyatt Fereday (Boise, Idaho) and Lucy Garrec (Freeport, Maine) will both be in action at the NCAA Men's and Women's Skiing Championships starting Thursday at Howelsen Hill in a meet hosted by the University of Colorado.

The women's 5-kilometer classical race is set for an 11:30 a.m. (EST) start on Thursday and the men will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the 10-kilometer classical race. After a day off, the men's 20-kilometer freestyle (mass start) will be run at noon Saturday and the women follow at 2 p.m. in the 15-kilometer freestyle race.

Fereday, a junior, has been one of the top skiers in the past few weeks in the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA), earning two second-place finishes in two weeks. One of the seconds came at the Eastern Championships at Middlebury College. Ferday was just a first-year student when competed in the NCAA meet as part of a full team with Silas Gill and Nick Kline back in 2008. The full three-skier team was the first for Colby at an NCAA meet.

Garrec, a sophomore, went to the NCAA meet last year along with Kathleen Maynard, the first two women's Nordic skiers to race at the national meet since 1998. Garrec fnished in 14th place in the 5K classical and then took 27th in the freestyle after having some problems during the course of that race. Garrec was the first Nordic skier to win a ski carnival race a year ago.
