CLERMONT, Fla. --- Lauren Becker pitched a complete game and Barbara Santos had a nice defensive play in the outfield in the seventh inning as the Colby College softball team opened the season with a 3-2 win over Lawrence University on Sunday on the team's Florida trip.

Colby (1-1) later fell 8-1 to Western Connecticut in the second game of the day.

Becker allowed just three hits, struck out six, and walked seven. The walks kept Lawrence on the bases, but Becker stranded 10 runners in the game.

Santos, Allyson Cheever, and Gabe Donahue had hits for Colby. Kelly Roth drove in a pair of runs, while Donahue had the lone extra-base hit of the day for the Mules with a double. Alex Essman, Lizzi Fort, and Katie Graichen had the runs for the winners. Graichen made a number of nice plays at second base.

Colby had three runs in the fourth inning, while Lawrence had singles runs in the third and fifth innings. Santos had an over the shoulder catch for the second out of the seventh inning.

No information was available on the Western Connecticut game.
