WATERVILLE, Maine --- Carlie Minichino went 4-for-4 with four RBI as the Colby College softball team took a 9-1 victory over University of Maine at Farmington on Wednesday in non-conference play.
The Mules (13-7) got a two-run home run by Alex Essman to end the game in the sixth inning due the eight-run mercy rule. Colby scored four times in the sixth inning thanks to the home run by Essman and RBI doubles from Minichino and Alyssa Lepore.
The Mules had three runs in the fifth inning on RBI singles by Tory Starr and Minichino. Barbara Santos drove home the other run with a sacrifice fly. Minichino also had a two-run single in the third inning for the Mules.
Lepore had three hits, including two doubles, and scored twice for Colby. Allyson Cheever went 3-for-3 and scored three times.
Randi Arsenault went the distance for Colby, striking out three and allowing five hits.
Shannon Mitchell doubled and scored on a single by Casandra Dyer in the fifth inning for UMF (3-6). Caitlin Flaherty also doubled for the Beavers.
