LEWISTON, Maine – Barbara Santos went deep for a home run in the first game and Alyssa Lepore had a blast in the second game as the Colby College softball team split a doubleheader with Bates College in NESCAC East Division play Saturday at Bates.

The Mules took a 6-4 win in the opener, while the Bobcats (12-11, 4-7 NESCAC East) bounced back for a 7-3 in the second game.

Colby (10-18, 1-10 NESCAC East) earned its first divisional win of the season in the first game of the day, bouncing back from Bates junior Leah Maciejewski's three-run home run in the first inning to even the game with three runs in the third on a matching three-run bomb to center field by Barbara Santos, then going ahead with three more runs in the fifth inning off of Bates starting pitcher Kristen Finn (6-6). Colby put two runners on in the fifth inning on a pair of errors, and Alyssa Lepore singled through the left side to drive home Lindsay Peterson and Katie Graichen. Santos later scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-3.

Bates cut a run out of Colby's lead in the sixth inning, when Mollie Kervick's single scored Courtney Talcott from first base.

Lauren Becker (6-9) earned the win for Colby, allowing four runs in a complete-game effort. Finn was charged with six runs, three earned, over five innings. Caroline Gattuso pitched two shutout innings in relief for Bates.

Gattuso started Game 2 for Bates and saw her personal string of 18.2 scoreless innings come to a close in the first inning, as Peterson hit a one-out double, moved to third on a single by Santos, and scored on a single to left by Bri Wheeler.

The Bobcats matched the Mules with a run in the bottom of the first. Karen Ullmann led off with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kelly McManus, advanced to third on a Colby error and scored on Maciejewski's RBI groundout.

The Bobcats busted the game open with five runs on six hits in the third inning, featuring an RBI double by Lauren Dobish down left field line, a two-run single to left by Courtney Talcott and a two-run hit up the middle by Alayna Garbarino, which put Bates ahead 6-1.

Colby cut the lead to 6-3 in the fifth inning, on the strength of a double by Santos followed by a two-run home run by Alyssa Lepore, her third of the season.

The Bobcats put another run on the board in the sixth inning.
