WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College’s Danielle Sheppard (Kittery, Maine), who had a personal best leap of 5-4.25 in the high jump, was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Field Performer of the Week on Tuesday.
The Colby women’s outdoor track and field team has had three straight weeks of athletes being honored in field events. Brianna Kondrat earned the award the past two weeks for her throws.
Sheppard’s jump came in Bowdoin College’s Aloha Relays and helped her win the event in a tough competition with University of Southern Maine’s Hillary Hall (5-2.25).
Sheppard, a sophomore, has had two jumps of 5-3 this season at the Mules’ home meet on April 11 and at the Fitchburg State meet on April 4.
Colby and Sheppard will compete at the NESCAC Championships on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Connecticut College. The women’s high jump competition will begin at 1 p.m. Sheppard finished tied for fourth place at last year’s NESCAC meet and should be one of the favorites to win a title this year.
