JACKSON, N.H. --- Fred Bailey (Andover, Maine) finished in ninth place overall in the 10-kilometer classic race to help the Colby College men's Nordic ski team place fourth out of 12 teams in the event at the University of New Hampshire Ski Carnival on Saturday.
Bailey had a time of 31:05.7 to earn the top 10 finish. Nick Kline placed 21st in 32:00.1, Silas Gill was 25th in 32:14.9, John Swain took 33rd place in 32:24.2 and Austin Ross was 35th in 32:27.1. The Colby men had 69 points and were just one point out of third place (UNH had 70 points).
The Colby women's Nordic team placed seventh out of 12 teams as Kathleen Maynard was 29th in 38:48.1 and Amanda Ivey took 30th in 39:00.6 in the 10K classic.
In men's alpine skiing, Jody Centauro was 22nd in the slalom with a two-run total time of 1:41.75 (49.66, 52.09) and teammate Joshua Kernan was one spot back in 23rd with a 1:41.77 (50.96, 50.81). The Colby men placed eighth out of 10 teams.
Dana Breakstone took 24th in the women's slalom in 2:00.90 (58.99, 1:01.91) for the Colby women, who were seventh out of 10 teams. Brett Wagenheim took 27th place in 2:02.50, Ashley Best was 32nd with a 2:05.54 and Amanda Towner placed 33rd in 2:05.89.
