Maynard, alpine skiers lead ski teams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Kathleen Maynard was 11th for the Nordic women and the men's alpine ski team had three skiers in the top 22 during the opening day of the Williams College Ski Carnival at Jiminy Peak on Friday.

Maynard had a time of 26:29.9  in the 10-kilometer freestyle race. Amanda Ivey placed 21st for the Mules in 38:03.7 as the Colby women placed sixth out of 13 teams.

Corey Linton was 15th in a two-run total time of 1:52.85 in the giant slalom for the Colby men's alpine team. Joshua Kernan was 17th in 1:53.07 and Jody Centauro was 22nd with a 1:53.99 as the men were fifth out of 10 teams.

In Nordic men's skiing, Colby placed fifth out of 14 teams as Nick Kline was 15th in 31:17.1 and Fred Bailey took 16th with a 31:21.4 over 10 kilometers. Sam Mathes  finished in 22nd place in 31:56.3.

The Colby women's alpine team had two skiers not finish the race in taking eighth out of 10 teams. Laura Littman placed 28th for the Mules with a 2:02.82 over two runs.
