STOWE, Vt. --- Colby College men's alpine skier Jody Centauro placed ninth in the giant slalom as the Mules took sixth in the event at the University of Vermont Ski Carnival on Saturday.
Centauro had runs of 55.42 and 58.23 for a two-run total time of 1:53.65. Christian Talmage was 16th with a total time of 1:55.63 and Sam Witherspoon placed 24th in 2:01.02. The Mules were sixth out of 10 teams with 56 points, but were just one point out of fifth place and three from fourth place.
The Colby women's alpine team had problems with skiers finishing the races and was ninth out of 10 teams. Ashley Best had the lone clean runs for Colby and placed 21st in 2:02.93.
In Nordic skiing, the Colby's men's team of Nick Kline (15:28.6), Fred Bailey (15:02.8) and John Swain (15:31.7) had a time of 46:03.1 in taking seventh in the 3x6 freestyle relay race.
The Colby women's Nordic team was eighth in the relay in 56:41.2 behind the skiing of Amanda Ivey (18:38.9), Kathleen Maynard (18:24.7) and Jennie Brentrup (19:37.5).
