DARTMOUTH, N.H. -- The Colby College men’s Nordic ski team had all six skiers in the top 22 in finishing in fourth place out of 12 schools in the 20-kilometer mass start classic on Friday at the Dartmouth College Ski Carnival. Meanwhile, Colby women’s alpine skier Dana Breakstone (Sparta, N.J.) placed 11th in the slalom.
Men’s Nordic skier Matt Briggs (Concord, Mass.) placed 11th in 1:05:32.7 and Fred Bailey (Andover, Maine) took 14th with a 1:05:47.0. The Mules also got strong finishes from Nick Kline (South Portland, Maine) in 16th place with a 1:06:04.2, Austin Ross (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) right behind him in 17th in 1:06:06.4, Silas Gill had a finish of 19th in 1:06:17.9 and John Swain (St. Paul, Minn.) placed 22nd in 1:06:43.4.
For the Colby women’s Nordic team, Kathleen Maynard (Jackson, N.H.) was 15th in the 15-kilometer race in 56:25.4 and Amanda Ivey (Oxford, Maine) placed 20th in 57:01.8 as the Mules were seventh out of 12 squads. Jennie Brentrup took 40th place with a 1:00:48.2, Rose Long was 44th in 1:01:59.1 and Linnea Rooke took 45th with a 1:03:25.4.
In combined scores of the two Nordic teams, Colby was tied for fourth place with Saint Lawrence at 113 points.
Breakstone finished with a two-run total time of 1:43.11 in taking 11th for the Colby women’s alpine team in the slalom. Laura Littman (Vail, Colo.) took 19th place in 1:44.69, Brett Wagenheim (Pittsford, Vt.) was 22nd in 1:47.40 and Ashley Best (South Salem, N.Y.) had a 1:51.32 for 27th place as the Colby women were fifth out of 10 teams.
Josh Kernan (Shelburne, N.H.) was 15th for the Colby men’s alpine team in 1:42.62 over two runs. Jody Centauro (Beaconsfield, Quebec) placed 23rd in 1:44.34 and Corey Linton (Jackson, Wyo.) took 47th in 2:04.65.
