RUMFORD, Maine --- Colby College Nordic skier Lucy Garrec (Freeport, Maine) had problems with another racer early in the competition and had to settle for 27th place in the women’s 15-kilometer mass start free technique race on Saturday at Black Mountain in the NCAA Skiing Championships.

Kathleen Maynard (Jackson, N.H.) placed 37th for the Mules.

The entire Colby ski program (alpine and Nordic combined) placed 11th overall and fourth among Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) squads. Most of the programs ahead of the Mules had full teams of 12 skiers, while Colby had five skiers participating (three alpine, two Nordic).

Garrec got caught up with another competitor and briefly fell before regrouping and making her way to a finish of 40 minutes, 56.6 seconds. Garrec had won at Black Mountain earlier this season in the Bates Ski Carnival and was one of the top five skiers in the mass start this season in the EISA. The first-year skier finished a fine season, with six top-three performances in ski carnivals.

Maynard had a time of 42:22.3 in her final race with the Mules.
