WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College golfer Harry Smith (Locust Valley, N.Y.) is now a All-New England Small College Athletic Conference all-league selection in two sports after earning second team golf honors Tuesday.
Smith, a sophomore, was an All-NESCAC selection for men's squash during his first year at Colby. He did not play for the golf team last year. Smith is the third Colby golfer to earn all-conference honors since the league started selecting a team in 2000. Jake Hobart earned second team honors in 2001 and Gus Thompson made the first team in 2007.
Smith placed in a tie for 10th overall and helped the Mules take sixth place at the NESCAC Fall Qualifier this past weekend at Waubeeka Golf Links in Williamstown, Mass. Smith started out with a 74 on Saturday and closed with a 76 the following day for a 150 total.
The golf team had the best finish for the program since the 2001 squad, led by Hobart, placed fourth overall. The sixth place finish ranks second among team finishes.
