Softball loses tight game to Union

CLERMONT, Fla. --- The Colby College softball team put up the best offensive numbers of the Florida spring trip with 16 hits and nine runs, but it was still not enough after falling 10-9 to Union College on Tuesday night.

The Mules also dropped an 18-0 decision in five innings to fifth-ranked Luther College.

Union scored nine runs in the first inning after Colby (1-5) had scored three in the top of the frame. The Mules added a single run in the fourth inning, three in the sixth, and two more in the ninth.

Katie Graichen led off and was 4-for-5 with four runs scored. Brianne Wheeler finished with a pair of hits, four RBI, and one run scored. The Mules also received two hits apiece from Alyssa Lepore, Alex Essman, Lindsay Peterson, and Gabe Donahue. Essman had an RBI triple, while Donahue had a two-run single in the first inning.

In the second game, Essman had the lone Colby hit of the game with a double.
