LEWISTON, Maine --- Despite three hits from Colby College's Alex Essman, Bates College pulled out a 6-1 victory over the Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference East Division softball Thursday.
Bates (5-12 overall, 2-4 NESCAC East) got two runs in the first inning on a two-run home run by Stacia Saniuk and led 3-0 before the Mules scored a lone run in the fifth. Bates countered that run in the bottom of the fifth and added two more in the sixth.
Essman, who is batting .414, picked up her 23rd RBI of the season when she drove in Annie Wilson with a double. Wilson led off the fifth inning with a triple. Colby also received a pair of hits from Carlie Minichino and one hit and a walk from Tory Starr.
The Mules (6-12, 0-7 NESCAC East) and Bates will play two more league games at Colby on Friday starting at 3 p.m.
