WATERVILLE, Maine --- Bowdoin College scored three unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning of the opener to take a 4-3 win over Colby College and then posted a 5-1 victory in the second game in New England Small College Athletic Conference softball Saturday.
Bowdoin (22-16-1 overall, 4-8 NESCAC East) was down to its final out before loading the bases on consecutive singles by Kaitee Daley (Canaan, Vt.), Lauren Coven (Ridgewood, N.J.), and Shavonne Lord (Shrewsbury, Mass.). The Polar Bears then got the three runs they would need on an outfield error by Colby. Daley, Coven, and Lord all had two hits in the game.
Karen Reni (Ashland, Mass.) picked up her fifth victory of the season for Bowdoin, while Alyssa Crowell was the tough luck loser for Colby.
Alex Essman (Littleton, Mass.) had one hit and two runs in the first game for Colby (17-10, 3-9). Annie Wilson (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) scored the other run and had one hit.
Coven had an RBI double and Lord smacked an RBI single as Bowdoin scored three times in the first inning of the nightcap. Coven finished with three hits, two runs, and two RBI.
Essman had an RBI single among Colby’s three hits in the second game.
Julia Jacobs went the distance for Bowdoin in the second game to earn her seventh victory.
