Softball drops league game to Bates

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Bates College scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 5-0 win over Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference East Division softball Friday at Crafts Field.

The Bobcats (11-10 overall, 3-6 NESCAC) and Colby (9-17, 0-9) will play two games at Bates starting at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Katie Graichen, Barbara Santos, Alyssa Lepore, Brianne Wheeler, Lauren Becker, Jen Goldman, and Kelly Roth all had one hit for the Mules. Lepore and Santos were both playing at home for the final time in their careers.

Courtney Talcott had three hits and three RBI for the Bobcats. She had an RBI single in the first inning and added a two-run double in the seventh. Leah Maciejewski added two hits, two runs, and an RBI for the winners. Lauren Dobish also had two hits and scored one run for Bates.

Maciejewski and AnnaMarie Martino also had RBI singles in the first inning to support winning pitcher Caroline Gattuso, who threw a complete-game shutout.
