Becker helps softball split with Husson

BANGOR, Maine --- Lauren Becker threw a two-hit shutout in the second game to help the Colby College softball team to a 1-0 win over Husson University and a split of a doubleheader on Saturday.

In the opener, Husson scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning after Colby had scored twice in the top of the frame to pull out a 9-8 victory.

Becker had 10 strikeouts and just one walk in earning her first collegiate shutout. The Mules scored the only run of the game in the first inning when Barbara Santos singled, stole second, and then scored on Alyssa Lepore's single. Lindsay Peterson had the other hit for Colby.

The Mules held a 6-0 lead in the opener before Husson tied the game with six runs n the bottom of the sixth inning. Alyssa Lepore had two hits and three RBI for the Mules. Christine Gillespie had two hits and an RBI, Barbara Santos had two hits and two runs, and Alex Essman contributed two hits.
