Tufts softball pulls away late from Mules

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Alyssa Lepore (Victor, N.Y.) belted a two-run home run for the Colby College softball team, but Tufts University had big sixth and seventh innings on the way to a 10-3 win in NESCAC East play Friday.

Casey Sullivan (Berlin, Conn.) had an RBI double in the sixth inning and smacked a two-run homer in the seventh for the Jumbos. Sullivan had two hits, three runs, and three RBI to pace the Jumbos (18-11, 8-2 NESAC East). Emily Beinecke (Concord, Mass.) added a pair of hits, three RBI, and one run scored. Lena Cantone (Southington, Conn.) had two runs and two RBI, while Julia Silberman (Somers, N.Y.) finished with a pair of hits.

Izzie Santone (Madison, Conn.) worked six innings and allowed no earned runs to earn the Tufts victory.

Lepore, the leading hitter in the NESCAC at the start of the week, had a two-run home run in the seventh inning for Colby (11-17, 3-7 NESCAC). Allyson Cheever (Augusta, Maine) and Lizzi Fort (Wilmette, Ill.) each had two hits.

The two teams will play a noon doubleheader at Colby on Saturday.
