WATERVILLE, Maine --- Alex Essman (Littleton, Mass.) capped off a big first year at Colby College by being named to the second team of the New England Small College Athletic Conference Softball All-Conference Team on Thursday.

Essman led the NESCAC in home runs (10), RBI (36), and was tied for the league lead in triples (3). She also was second in the conference in total bases (84).

Essman led Colby in batting average (.379) of players with 25 at-bats or more, homers, RBI, doubles (9), total hits (39), runs (22), and slugging percentage (.816). She also started all 31 games for the Mules (17-14) and made just one error in right field for a .971 fielding percentage.

Clutch hitting was a key for Essman, who batted 4-for-5 with the bases loaded, 6-for-10 with a runner on third and less than two outs, and .442 (19-for-43) with runners in scoring position.
