Colby swim teams post wins over UNE, Husson

WATERVILLE, Maine --- The first home meet of the season for the Colby College men and women's swimming and diving teams mainly resulted in individual victories for the Mules over University of New England and Husson College.
The Colby women took a 134-119 win over UNE and beat Husson by a 154-56 margin. UNE took a 108-81 win against Husson in the other dual meet. On the men's side, Colby took a 97-58 win against UNE (Husson has only a women's team). Colby women's All-American Kelly Norsworthy lowered her NCAA 'B' cut qualifying time in taking the 100 breaststroke (1:06.82) and she also took the 100 individual medley (1:02.93). The Colby women also received victories from Hadley Chatel in the 1,000 freestyle (11:56.57), Danielle Carlson in the 200 freestyle (2:00.42), Hillary Rockey in the 50 backstroke (31.76), Alice Evans in the 50 breaststroke (34.74), Jamie Warner in the 100 butterfly (1:01.34), Courtney Chilcote in the 50 freestyle (26.26), Franny Izzo in the 100 freestyle (57.17), Kelsey Potdevin in the 100 backstroke (1:00.55), Weather Potdevin in the 500 freestyle (5:30.53), Maddie Given in the 50 butterfly (28.18) and Ruth Langton in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Colby's 200 medley relay team of Kelsey Potdevin, Norsworthy, Given and Carlson had a winning time of 1:51.68, just one-tenth of a second off the Colby pool record. Kelsey Potdevin, Chilcote, Kristi Boman and Izzo combined to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:44.67. Colby men's All-American Jabez Dewey took the 100 backstroke (53.69) and the 50 freestyle (22.74), while Mitch Bartkiewicz captured the 100 individual medley (56.90) and the 50 breaststroke (29.15). Mike Finnerty also won twice with victories in the 100 freestyle (52.24) and the 200 freestyle (1:54.97). The Colby men also picked up wins from Kevin Smith in the 1,000 freestyle (10:27.19), Travis Townsend in the 50 backstroke (27.54), Ben Gross in the 100 butterfly (57.57), Andrew Peterson in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.25), Evan McCulloch in the 500 freestyle (5:22.51) and Sam Wampler in the 50 butterfly (25.40). Wampler, Gross, Mullin and Dewey took the 200 freestyle relay in 1:30.62. The Mules also got a win in the 200 medley relay (1:40.03) from Dewey, Bartkiewicz, Gross and Wampler.
