WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College men's swimmer Jabez Dewey (Worcester Academy/Worcester, Mass.) earned all-conference honors by the New England Small College Athletic Conference after finishing in the top three in three events at the league meet this past weekend.
Dewey earned the championship in the 50-yard backstroke, took second place in the 100 backstroke and was third in the 200 backstroke. He started the weekend by taking the 50 backstroke in 24.33 in the final after posting a 24.16 in a preliminary race. Dewey finished in second place at last year's NESCAC meet in the 50 backstroke.
Dewey had the fastest 100 backstroke time in 51.41 in a preliminary race, but settled for second in the championship final with a 51.95 clocking. He then closed the weekend with a 1:53.73 in the 200 backstroke.
In individual points, Dewey finished in a tie for fifth place among all swimmers in total points with 87. He helped the Mules finish in sixth place out of 11 teams at the NESCAC meet.
Dewey will swim in the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships March 15 to 17 at the University of Houston. He finished in fifth and earned All-America honors in the 100 backstroke (50.87) at last year's national meet.
