HOUSTON, Texas --- Colby College's Jabez Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) prepared for his upcoming backstroke races by placing 39th in the 50-yard freestyle at the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday at the University of Houston.

Dewey had a time of 21.74 after coming into the meet with a top time this year of 21.86 in the event. Dewey was mainly using the swim to get ready for Friday's 100 backstroke competition and Saturday's 200 backstroke event. Dewey placed fifth and earned All-America honors in the 100 backstroke at last year's NCAA meet.

Dewey also competed in the 50 freestyle at last year's national meet and placed 47th.
