King was the national runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a school-record time of 10 minutes, 27.56 seconds, while Knight placed fifth with a clocking of 10:32.94. Dickinson College senior Caitlin Bradley won the title with a time of 10:22.60. The top eight competitors in each event at the national meet earn All-America honors.
King came into the night with the best time in the country this season at 10:34.65, but Bradley had run a 10:21.04 in taking third place at the national meet a year ago. King beat her own school record by more than seven seconds. Meanwhile, Knight beat her personal-best time of 10:39.90 by just under seven seconds.
King, a senior, picked up her fourth All-American honor after taking fifth in the steeplechase at last year's national meet and was seventh place as a first-year runner. She just recently earned All-America honors with the distance medley relay team at the national indoor meet.
King caps off a phenomenal final season with Colby after winning the Open New England Championship in the steeplechase and taking the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) title. She also won the 1,500-meter run at the New England Division III Championships.
Knight, a sophomore, had a time of 11:10.22 in taking second place in the steeplechase at the NESCAC meet on April 26. She shaved nearly 40 seconds off that time in less than a month. Knight was the youngest runner in the top five of two seniors and two juniors.
