Volleyball starts strong in loss to Amherst

MEDFORD, Mass. --- The Colby College volleyball team got off to a strong start only to see Amherst College win the final three games in a 3-1 win over the Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday night at Tufts University.

Meredith Lawler had 21 kills and three blocks for Colby (11-11, 2-3 NESCAC). Kendall Kirby finished with 27 defensive digs.

Amherst (18-1, 4-1) got 33 assists from setter Sara Heller in taking the match with 30-32, 30-26, 30-18, 30-21 scores.

Colby will play Tufts at noon Saturday, while Amherst goes up against Bowdoin at the same time.
