MIDDLETOWN, Conn. --- The Colby College volleyball team was in each of the three games only to see Wesleyan University pull away each time for a 3-0 victory in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday night.
The Cardinals (5-8 overall, 1-2 NESCAC) took a 25-22, 25-16, 25-17 win over the Mules (4-10, 0-3).
Colby trailed 13-8 early in the match only to fight back for a 16-16 tie in the first set. The match was still tied 22-22 when the Cardinals scored the final three points. The Mules got as close as 13-10 in the second set before Wesleyan scored five straight points. Meanwhile, Colby led 15-13 in the third set until dropping six straight points to give the Cardinals the lead for good.
Emily Ten Eyck had four kills and 13 assists to pace Colby. Heather Arvidson also had four kills and two blocks, Caitlin Burchill finished with 10 defensive digs, and Larissa Levine had two blocks.
Casey Reed led Wesleyan with 15 kills and Ellie Healy dished 35 assists.
Colby will take on Connecticut College in another league match Saturday at 11 a.m.
