WATERVILLE, Maine --- Home court was kind to the Colby College volleyball team in a 3-1 victory over Bates College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Wednesday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
The Mules (10-12 overall, 1-6 NESCAC), playing their first home league match of the season, received 33 assists, seven defensive digs, six service aces, and five kills from senior setter Jenny Lawrence (Lafayette, Calif.).
Colby won by set scores of 25-11, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22 to keep its NESCAC playoff hopes alive. The Mules will host a NESCAC weekend of play October 31 and November 1 to end the regular season. Colby will play three league matches at home against Hamilton, Williams, and Middlebury.
Heather Arvidson (Andover, Mass.) added 11 kills and six blocks for Colby. Andrea Rosengarten (New York, N.Y.) had 19 digs and finished with 10 kills, Meredith Lawler (Lynnfield, Mass.) had nine kills and two blocks, Larissa Levine (Potomac, Md.) blocked four and had five kills, Clare Reich (Piedmont, Calif.) had a team-high 21 digs, and Carlie Minichino (Stratford, Conn.) added 10 digs.
Bates (12-15, 1-6) received 10 kills from Tess Dokus (Salem, Conn.), while Olivia Schow (Costa Mesa, Calif.) served six aces and had nine kills. Avery Masters (Mill Valley, Calif.) also had nine kills, Grace Haessler (Portland, Ore.) dished 32 assists and had nine digs, and Kira Kramlich (San Francisco, Calif.) added 14 digs.
Colby will play Westfield State at 7 p.m. Friday at the Hall of Fame Tournament.
