Volleyball team falls in two matches

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. --- A day after beating Westfield State to start the tourney, the Colby College volleyball team fell 3-1 to Gordon and 3-0 to Wheaton at the Hall of Fame Tournament at Mount Holyoke College on Saturday.

Meredith Lawler had 12 kills and a pair of blocks in a 25-14, 25-23, 11-25, 26-24 setback to Gordon. Megan Conroy added nine kills and 15 digs, Heather Arvidson finished with eight kills and three aces, and Jenny Lawrence had 35 assists and 16 digs. Larissa Levine finished with seven kills and Andrea Rosengarten had six kills in three games.

Arvidson had six kills (no errors in 16 attempts) and three blocks in the Mules’ 25-21, 25-21, 25-20 loss to Wheaton. Lawler had seven kills and Lawrence finished with 19 assists and 10 digs.

Colby (11-14) will host a NESCAC weekend of play at Wadsworth Gymnasium starting Friday. The Mules play Williams at 6 p.m. Friday in their first match and close with Hamilton and Middlebury on Saturday.
