Volleyball ends year with tough losses

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. --- Playing without injured libero Kendall Kirby, the Colby College volleyball team dropped matches to Wesleyan University and Trinity College on Saturday.

Colby ended the season at 13-19 and 2-8 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. The Mules needed to win at least one match Saturday, but fell 30-28, 30-28, 34-32 to Trinity and lost 33-31, 30-15, 30-21 to Wesleyan.

Meredith Lawler had 19 kills and three blocks against Trinity. Jenny Lawrence added 29 assists and 17 digs, Julie Hike had eight kills and 10 digs, and Jessie Prentice finished with nine kills, 12 digs and five aces.

In the match against Wesleyan, Lawler had 14 kills and four blocks, while Lawrence had 22 assists. Hike had nine kills, Carlie Minichino had 16 digs and Cassie Sancartier had 13 digs.

Lawler also led the way for Colby with 13 kills and three blocks in a 30-24, 30-27, 30-28 loss to Connecticut College on Friday night. Hike added 16 digs and eight kills, Minichino had 17 digs and four aces, Lawrence dished 29 assists, and Prentice had seven kills, 13 digs and three aces.
