Volleyball ends season with two setbacks

HARTFORD, Conn. --- The Colby College volleyball team won the opening two sets against Wesleyan University only to see the Cardinals come back to win the final three in NESCAC volleyball Saturday at Trinity College.

The Mules finish the season at 7-17 overall and 0-10 in the conference. Colby also fell 3-0 to Connecticut College in a later match Saturday.

Colby nearly won its first league match after taking 25-17 and 25-14 wins in the first two sets against Wesleyan. The Cardinals won the next three --  25-12, 25-16, 15-12.

Lily Kramlich-Taylor had 11 kills, five blocks, and two aces in the match against Wesleyan. Caitlin Burchill finished with eight kills, 10 digs, three blocks, and two aces. The Mules also received 31 assists and 14 digs from Kate Pleasants, seven kills and five blocks by Mackie Sewell, six kills and 15 digs from Maggie Taylor, a team-high 20 digs by Emily Varni, and 13 digs from Clare Reich.

In the Conn College match (25-23, 25-15, 25-18), Kramlich-Taylor had seven kills and three aces. Pleasants finished with 15 assists, Reich had 12 digs, and Taylor had four kills and 15 digs.
