Volleyball teams ends season with losses

CLINTON, N.Y. --- The Colby College volleyball team finished the 2009 season with setbacks to Middlebury College and Williams College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Saturday at Hamilton College.

The Mules (10-18 overall, 1-9 NESCAC) fell 25-12, 25-16, 25-16 to Middlebury in the opening match of the day. The squad then lost 25-9, 25-11, 25-13 to Williams.

Heather Arvidson had five kills and two blocks to lead Colby in the Middlebury match. Emily Ten Eyck added 14 assists, 12 defensive digs, and four kills. Clare Reich, Emily Varni, and Maggie Taylor all contributed nine digs, while Mackie Sewall had four kills and Larissa Levine finished with two blocks.

Caitlin Burchill had seven kills and 12 digs against Williams. Megan Conroy had 17 digs, Reich added 12 digs, Arvidson had seven kills and two blocks, and Varni dished 11 assists.
