WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College volleyball team was one point away from being down two sets before fighting back for a 3-1 win over Maine Maritime Academy on Friday at the Colby Invitational at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

The Mules (2-0) opened the season with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-14) victory over Husson College. Colby then had to battle for a 22-25, 28-26, 25-17, 25-18 win over the Mariners. The Mules are back in action at the tourney against Bates College at 1:30 p.m. and then a 3:30 match versus University of Maine at Farmington.

Maine Maritime Academy (3-1) appeared to have the momentum of the match after winning 25-22 in the first game and then had an opportunity to close out the second game. However, the Mules prevailed 28-26 and controlled the match from that point on.

First-year setter Emily Ten Eyck (Minnetrista, Minn.) had 29 assists, 14 digs, 7 kills, and three blocks for Colby in the win over MMA. Caitlin Burchill (Walpole, Mass.) added nine kills and 18 digs, while Heather Arvidson (Andover, Mass.) also had nine kills and four blocks. Anne Sewall (Santa Barbara, Calif.) finished with a team-high six blocks for the Mules and chipped in with four kills. Maggie Taylor (Cabin John, Md.) had seven kills, five blocks, and 12 digs.

In the win against Husson, Ten Eyck had 21 assists and Clare Reich (Piedmont, Calif.) had 11 digs. Burchill and Arvidson both had five kills in two games and teammate Larissa Levine (Potomac, Md.) also had five kills.
