WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College volleyball team got off to a solid start in the New England Small College Athletic Conference with a 3-1 victory over Trinity College on Friday night.
The Mules move to 5-1 overall and have won four straight matches heading into Saturday's 11 a.m. match with Wesleyan University. Colby also will entertain Connecticut College at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Meredith Lawler (Lynnfield, Mass.) had 17 kills and nine defensive digs to lead the Mules in the 30-25, 30-28, 14-30, 30-24 victory. Jenny Lawrence (Lafayette, Calif.) added 30 assists and 16 digs, Megan Conroy (San Francisco, Calif.) had 18 digs, Larissa Levine (Potomac, Md.) finished with 10 kills and five blocks, and Cassie Sancartier (Haverhill, Mass.) served six aces.
The Mules (1-0 NESCAC) also got some production from first-year players Heather Arvidson (Andover, Mass.) and Samantha Bassman (San Diego, Calif.). Arvidson had eight kills, while Bassman contributed 10 digs and five blocks.
Emily Moore (Winfield, Ill.) led Trinity (2-3, 0-1 NESCAC) with 39 assists. Katie Lentz (Cheshire, Conn.) had 28 digs and Molly Ullman (Studio City, Calif.) finished with 13 kills.
