Colby volleyball falls in match to Bates

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Colby College volleyball team got off to a slow start in the first set and Bates College took advantage on the way to a 3-0 victory over the Mules in non-conference play Wednesday night.

Colby sophomore Emily Varni (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) led the Mules in kills with six, while first-year Lily Kramlich-Taylor had five and senior Heather Arvidson (Andover, Mass.) added four. Sophomore Maggie Taylor (Cabin John, Md.) led the team in digs with 17 and junior Caitlin Burchill (Walpole, Mass.) added seven.

Bates (2-3 overall), which won by scores of 25-13, 25-17, 25-15, darted out to a 7-1 lead in the opening set.

Colby (3-1) will play host to Bowdoin College at 6 p.m. Friday in a NESCAC match.
