BRUNSWICK, Maine --- The Colby College volleyball team took victories over Middlebury College and Hamilton College while falling to Williams College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Friday and Saturday at Bowdoin College.
In Saturday's matches, the Mules took a 3-1 win (30-24, 28-30, 30-26, 30-25) over Middlebury and then fell 3-0 (30-26, 30-23, 30-21) to Williams. Colby opened play Friday night with a 3-1 win (22-30, 30-16, 30-23, 30-15) against Hamilton.
Meredith Lawler set a Colby record with 23 kills in the four-game win over Middlebury. All-American Cait Cleaver had 22 kills in a four-game match on three occasions. Meanwhile, Kendall Kirby finished with a school record 53 digs to break the old four-game record of 45 she had set the previous night against Hamilton.
Julie Hike added 13 kills and three blocks in the win against Middlebury. Jenny Lawrence finished with 46 assists, 23 digs and four aces for Colby (5-2, 2-1 NESCAC). Jessie Prentice added 26 digs, seven kills and three aces against the Panthers, while Cassie Sancartier had 10 kills and Carlie Minichino had 16 digs.
Prentice had 18 kills and 21 defensive digs to lead Colby in the win against Hamilton. Lawler added 17 kills and four blocks, Lawrence finished with 41 assists and Sancartier had five aces.
Lawler had 11 kills and four blocks in the loss to Williams. Kirby finished with 36 digs to break the Colby three-game dig record of 32 set by Jackie Bates in 1997. Prentice added 25 digs, Lawrence had 17 assists and 16 digs and Larissa Levine had six kills and four blocks.
